The other day some friends and I were talking about how over chocolated our kids can get during Easter and how it might be difficult and not responsible to even get eggs this year due to the shortage. This got me thinking about how my son would actually rather have coins so he can save up and feed the koi fish at our local garden centre than chocolate. This year, in addition to probably dying a couple of eggs, we are going to use reusable fabric Easter eggs filled with little treats like a whistle, chocolate, and coins.
These eggs are quick and easy to make. Perfect for beginner sewers.
What you'll need:
- Printer and paper
- Scissors
- Fabric
- Pins
- Thread
- Sewing Machine or needle to sew by hand
-Optional:
- Rotary Blade
- Bone Folder
Directions:
1. Print and cut out pattern found here: Reusable Fabric Easter Eggs
2. Cut fabric out. Make sure to take note of which is the top and bottom of the egg pieces.
3. Fold and press the flat edge of the top and bottom pieces about 1cm down.
4. Sew along the edge of the folded pieces to create a hem.
5. Line up the back, top, and bottom pieces right side together. The top and bottom will overlap.
6. Pin fabric in place and sew around with a 0.7cm seam allowance.
7. Press flat.
8. Turn egg inside out and push out the edges with your finger or bone folder.
9. Press again and there you have your eggsellent egg!
