  • Use a star themed outfit to match the PJ’s the characters wear to keep it comfy.

  • Find a white or light grey base outfit, cut strips of silver tape or foil to make panels, zips, stripes for the astronaut suit.

  • Match up with white gloves and a stick on NASA symbol.

  • For the helmet, use a clear plastic bowl as a visor and secure with a headband or hat underneath. To make one out of cardboard, cut a helmet shape from a box, paint it up and add a “window” with foil or cling film.

  • For the oxygen tank, pop two plastic bottles or kitchen roll tubes together, paint white and secure with string or ribbon - like backpack straps.

  • For the boots, any shoes can be worn! Just cover them up with tape or foil boot covers.

5 Simple ways to celebrate World Book Day (no pressure)

  1. Make a “book picnic” by grabbing a blanket, getting some yummy snacks or foods, and lastly a pile of books. Read on the floor, under the table or in a cozy den.

  2. Create a reading nook for the week and let your child choose the featured book for the day.

  3. Do a character voice challenge; pick a story and read it with silly voices - easy for everyone to join in and certain to cause loads of laughter and giggles.

  4. Swap books between friends for an easy way to refresh the home library and try new genres and stories.

  5. Let the toddler or young child lead the reading session; whether it's making a new story based on the pictures or by changing the ending, it's a guaranteed good way to encourage love for reading and confidence.

A gentle reminder (especially for parents)

If costumes feel like a lot this year, you’re not failing. World Book Day is really about the story, those little moments of connection when you sit down together and read.
