February Half Term with Toddlers: Easy Activity Ideas + New Frugi SS26 Picks

Half term with toddlers and preschoolers can be equal parts fun and lovely, although loud at times, preparing a few easy wins ahead of time can always be useful.

No need to overcomplicate it, think simple activities, low prep, and plenty of chances to burn energy (without the need to entertain 24/7).

Below are a handful of February half term ideas that work brilliantly for ages 2-4, plus a little peek at some of our favourite pieces from the new Frugi SS26 collection: hello sunshine colours, smiley accessories, and swimwear that's basically begging for a splash.

Activities for Toddlers and Preschoolers

Rainbow walk colour hunt

Perfect for February when you need a reason to get out the door. Pick a colour (or do a full rainbow) and spot things as you walk: a red post box, a yellow leaf, a green sign bonus points if they can take photos on your phone.

Make it extra: when you get home, draw a simple rainbow and let them colour in the sections with what you found.

Swimming with little ones (local ideas + at-home option)

If you've got a little one who loves water, a swim session is such a good half term reset it burns energy, lifts everyone's mood, and usually guarantees a great nap.

Local swim ideas:
Romsey Rapids (Romsey) brilliant family-friendly sessions and a fun, splashy vibe.
Fareham Leisure Center (Fareham) with a newly renovated children’s splash pad.  Mountbatten Centre (Portsmouth) a solid option for a straightforward swim.
Havant Leisure Centre is worth a look for family swim times.

(Always double-check half term timetables and age/session rules before you go.)

If you're staying in: set up a mini swim school in the bath or a washing-up bowl.
Scoop and pour with cups - Float vs sink game - Rescue the toy with a spoon.

It's calm, sensory, and buys you a solid chunk of time.

Pack a picnic lunchbox play

Toddlers love the idea of packing. Let them build a pretend picnic (or a real one) with simple bits: crackers, fruit, sandwiches, a little treat. Then eat it on the living room floor, in the garden, or at the beach if you're feeling brave.

Smiley scavenger hunt

Draw 68 simple smiley faces on sticky notes and hide them around the house. Each time they find one, they bring it back to the base (your sofa).

Optional upgrade: swap the last smiley for a tiny prize sticker sheet, a new book, or first pick of bedtime story.

Make a mini shop role play

Set up a little shop with toys, books, or snacks. Give them a basket and let them buy things using buttons/coins/paper squares. Great for language, turn-taking, and keeping hands busy.

Weather art: rain, wind, and sunshine

February weather can be rather inconsistent, for easy entertainment on the not so dry days, try;
Rain painting: drip water onto a page, then dab with washable paint.
Wind painting: blow paint around with a straw (supervised).
Sunshine collage: tear yellow paper and glue into a big sun.
